Introducing the World Health Organization (WHO)

WHO began on 7 April 1948; a date now celebrated every year as World Health Day. WHO currently has 7000+ employees and 194 Member States.

WHO works to promote health, keep the world safe, and serve the world’s most vulnerable. Their goals are to ensure a billion more people have universal health coverage, to protect a billion more people from health emergencies, and to provide a further billion people with better health and well-being.

Good health is a precious thing. When we are healthy we can learn, work, and support ourselves and our families. The principle that all people should enjoy the highest standard of health, regardless of race, religion, political belief, economic or social condition, has guided WHO’s work for the past 70+ years as the lead UN agency for international health (WHO, 2021).
