How can we contribute in reducing global warming and also its consequence?
Planting more number of trees
Reducing waste generation Reducing the use of products which generate green house gases.
Using energy efficient appliances
Increasing the fuel efficiency of vehicles and using more renewable energy
or switch into greener ways which causes less harm to our environment.

Global Warming and Green House Effect
Earth, the third planet from the sun. The only planet having a vast diversity of life form while other planets are either scorching hot or bitterly cold while Earth has a relatedly stable temperature.
What should be done to stop all this?
Earth is constantly bombarded with enormous radiation by the sun, which will receive in the form of light and heat energy.
What is that which is making earth different?
What exactly making earth such a favorable place to live on?
It is the earth atmosphere which is thin blanket of air surrounding the Earth from all around. This air is a mixture of different gases. Just like an umbrella which protects us from sun and rain. The still layer of air protects earth from harmful radiation from Sun but this stable temperature is rising every passing year.
This radiation in the form of visible rays, ultraviolet and infrared have to first pass the Earth atmosphere before reaching the surface. The OZON layer which is present at he earth atmosphere blocks some amount of ultraviolet rays from reaching the surface; of the remaining rays reaching the surface are absorbed by earth; and
some especially the infrared rays are reflected back into the space. But some gases in the atmosphere traps this heat radiation and emits it to the surface which leads to heating up the environment. This exchange of incoming and outgoing radiations that warms the earth is referred to as the Green House Effect and gases involved in this are called green house gases. Which mainly includes Carbon Dioxide CO2, Methane, Water Vapers, Chlorofloro Carbons etc.
But are you not wondering, why is it called green house effect?
Is it something to do it with Green House, if you said, “YES”, you are thinking in the right way.
A Green House is glass building in which plants that require protection from cold weather are kept. The glass cover helps to trap all the heat energy and keeps the inside environment warm. Now consider our planet earth, the atmosphere acts as a glass and traps the heat. The green house effect is essential in order to keep up planet war. In the absence of this effect the temperature of the earth’s surface would have been -20C to -40C; but too much of something is bad. If the plants in the green house receives access heat it would burn and if we consider planet earth, over the last two centuries human activities have changed the earth atmosphere in a dramatic way.
The amount of Green House Gases has increased and still increasing. They trap too much heat and this access of green house effect results in Global Warming which is resulting in increase of earth’s average temperature.
Consequences of Global Warming are enormous. It’s effects are not limited to one country but it will effect the entire planet.
Knowing the fact that Global Warming exists and human made carbon dioxide emission have caused it. Many nations of the world have come together an international treaty, The Kyoto Protocol. The major objective of this agreement is to reduce green house emissions 5% below year 1990 level.
United Nations (UN) Climate Change
UN Climate Change, or UNFCCC, is the UN entity supporting the global response to climate change. The UNFCCC has near universal membership (197 Parties) and is the parent treaty of the 2015 Paris Agreement and the 1997 Kyoto Protocol and its 2012 Doha Amendment. UN Climate Change collaborates with numerous UN organizations to pool resources and integrate efforts in implementing UN’s global climate change response, as well as other global agendas including the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
In response to the increasing impact of climate change on development and security issues, UN Climate Change and a growing number of additional UN organizations are working closely with governments to help build green and climate-resilient societies. An Alliance of these organizations was launched in 2012 with a view to promote meaningful, result-oriented and effective international cooperation in support of action on climate change education, training, public awareness, public participation and access to information (UNFCCC, 2020).
