UNRISD - United Nations Research Institute for Social Development

Introducing the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD)…

UNRISD is an autonomous research institute within the UN system that conducts interdisciplinary research/policy analysis on the social dimensions of contemporary development issues. Their work aims to ensure that social equity, inclusion and justice are central to development thinking, policy, and practice (UNRISD, 2021).

UNRISD was established in 1963 to conduct of policy-relevant, cutting-edge research on social development that is pertinent to the work of the UN. They focus on social content and the impacts of development processes and the role of social institutions and relations in shaping development policies and pathways. They also engage researchers, policymakers, and others from around the world in generating and sharing knowledge, in order to shape policy within and beyond the UN system.

UNRISD seeks to contribute to evidence-based implementation of the 2030 Agenda through the use of research findings/analysis in training and capacity development. They host international conferences and special events, many of which are open to the public. Workshops are also organized by the Institute in order to promote exchange among members of project research teams.
